Welcome to Healthcare Matters, an internet television program that explores the intersection of medicine and the law with an emphasis on medical malpractice insurance and risk management. Host Michael Matray, editor of Medical Liability Monitor, interviews guests from the healthcare and legal communities on issues such as tort reform, significant malpractice judgments and emerging legal trends in medical professional liability. In this episode, Healthcare Matters interviews ALL MD attorney Whit Johnson on an EMR’s audit/access log, how plaintiff's counsel can exploit it and how a healthcare professional can avoid these specific pitfalls when using an electronic medical record. Johnson is a shareholder at CURRIE, JOHNSON, GRIFFIN & MEYERS P.A. He practices law in Mississippi, specializing in trial work, with a focus on the defense of physicians, hospitals and other health care providers from claims of medical negligence. Johnson was recognized in 2011 as “Lawyer of the Year” by Best Lawyers in the field of medical malpractice law. Johnson is a charter member of the Association of Liability Lawyers in Medical Defense (ALL MD), a nationwide organization that connects healthcare providers with attorneys who specialize in medical malpractice defense.

Payday lending establishments in Mississippi charge a 572% interest rate for very short-term loans to low income people to help them cover their basic expenses until their next paycheck. This has the effect of sucking large amounts of income away from people and communities who are already desperately poor. We produced this video for the Mississippi Center for Justice to help them show the Jackson City Counsel, Mississippi Legislature, and the general public, the impact of payday lending on their state and, most importantly, to demonstrate some positive alternatives.
